Workshop Title: Beyond Rhetoric: Building Truly Egalitarian, Health-Promoting Universities - PCW 2A
Facilitators: Paola Ardiles Gamboa (SFU), Marie Connolly (UL) and Sislena Ledbetter (WWU)
Theme: Egalitarian Universities
As the Okanagan Charter approaches its 10-year milestone, this interactive workshop confronts the persistent structural inequities undermining inclusive, health-promoting universities. Despite widespread adoption of health frameworks, systemic barriers and institutional inertia remain. Through storytelling, reflective dialogue, and a participatory World Café format, changemakers from diverse contexts will share lived experiences, challenge extractive norms, and co-create tools for tracking meaningful progress. The session invites participants to reimagine what an ‘Egalitarian University’ could look like—beyond metrics—by centring equity, accessibility, and wellbeing. This is a space for those weary yet unwavering in their pursuit of transformative, measurable change in higher education.
Half Day Workshops (Morning), 9.30am - 12.30pm:
€45.00 (including break and lunch)

Workshop Title: HPU 101 – PCW 3A
Facilitators: Rebecca Kennedy (UAB), Cuisle Ford (TCD), Julia Pointon-Haas (KCL) and Hazel Wright (TeesU)
Theme: Health Promoting Campuses
Health Promoting Campuses around the globe take a salutogenic approach, with a focus on systems, policy, and the intentional creation of environments supportive of well-being. This session is for individuals who are new to the approach or want to learn more from this international panel of experts. We will review the history of the movement and take a deep dive into the Okanagan Charter, which provides institutions with a common language, principles, and framework for implementation. Additionally, participants will have opportunities to engage with one another and the concepts as they become inspired and develop action-oriented thinking to bring back to their campuses for application.
Half Day Workshops (Afternoon), 1.30pm - 3.30pm:
€45.00 (including break and lunch)
Workshop Title: Developing a Self-Evaluation Tool for Health Promoting Campuses – Lessons from Ireland – PCW 3B
Facilitators: Catherine Darker (TCD) and Mark Dooris (UCLan)
Theme: Health Promoting Campuses
Join this interactive workshop to explore the design and implementation of Ireland’s Healthy Campus Self-Evaluation Tool and Repository. Using a multi-phase, stakeholder-driven approach, the development team combined global frameworks with local context to create a practical, adaptable tool for higher education. Participants will gain insights into the challenges and successes of this process and explore key domains and indicators relevant to their own institutions. The session includes live demonstrations, collaborative group activities, and a panel Q&A. Ideal for those seeking to embed sustainable, whole-campus approaches to health and wellbeing in their settings, this workshop offers real-world strategies and resources to support implementation, reflection, and continuous improvement in health-promoting campus initiatives.
